Grief & Loss Counselling

If you’re experiencing grief, loss, or bereavement, reaching out can feel like one of the hardest steps to take. Loss can arrive through death, illness, relationship breakdown, miscarriage, trauma, or sudden life change — and it often leaves people feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, and unsure how to move forward. At Blue Healers Counselling, grief and loss counselling provides a compassionate, steady space to help you process what has happened and learn how to live alongside loss without being consumed by it.

No doctor’s referral is required to make a booking. In-person sessions are available in Graceville (Brisbane), with online counselling also offered.

We are here to help

Grief is not a single emotion or a linear process. It can include sadness, anger, guilt, numbness, confusion, anxiety, relief, or a deep sense of emptiness — sometimes all at once. Many people find that grief affects sleep, concentration, relationships, work performance, and their sense of identity or meaning. Others feel pressure to “be strong” or worry that they are grieving the “wrong way.” At Blue Healers Counselling, we understand that grief is deeply personal and shaped by your relationship, your history, and the circumstances of the loss. There is no timeline you are required to follow. Counselling provides a safe, non-judgemental space where you can speak openly, make sense of your experience, and feel supported rather than rushed.

Our grief counselling approach is trauma-informed, person-centred, and grounded in evidence-based practice. Rather than pushing you to “move on,” therapy focuses on helping your nervous system settle, understanding how grief is showing up for you, and supporting you to integrate the loss into your life in a way that feels manageable and meaningful.

Sessions may involve gently exploring the impact of the loss, working with difficult emotions, addressing anxiety or intrusive thoughts, and rebuilding a sense of stability and purpose. For some people, grief is tied to trauma, sudden loss, or unresolved experiences, and counselling helps process these safely at your own pace.

Healing does not mean forgetting or erasing what has been lost. It means learning how to carry grief without it overwhelming every part of your life. With the right support, many people find they can reconnect with relationships, regain emotional balance, and begin to feel moments of steadiness again — even while grief remains present.

If grief or loss is affecting your daily life, sleep, relationships, or ability to function, support can help. You don’t have to navigate this alone. Grief and loss counselling at Blue Healers Counselling offers a calm, compassionate space to help you find your footing again, one step at a time.

Grief & Loss FAQs

Is grief counselling only for people who have lost someone to death?

No. Grief can follow many types of loss, including relationship breakdown, miscarriage, infertility, illness, trauma, identity change, retirement, or major life transitions. Counselling supports all forms of loss and change.

What happens in a grief counselling session?

Sessions give you a safe space to speak openly about what you’re carrying, make sense of how grief is affecting you, and learn practical ways to cope with difficult emotions, thoughts, and daily life impacts.

Is it normal to feel numb, angry, or anxious after a loss?

Yes. Grief can involve numbness, anger, guilt, anxiety, panic symptoms, or feeling disconnected. These responses are common and often reflect how the nervous system responds to shock, change, and attachment loss.

How long does grief counselling usually take?

There’s no fixed timeline. Some people want a few sessions to stabilise and cope; others prefer ongoing support as they adjust and rebuild. We work at a pace that feels manageable and respectful for you.

Do I need a referral, and can I book online?

No referral is required. You can book online or call. We offer in-person sessions in Graceville (Brisbane) and online counselling.
